FAQ
Everything you need to know about caring for your diffuser and getting the most from your NOVAROMA fragrance oils.
Cleaning Your Diffuser
Do I need to clean my diffuser before each refill?
Yes. Clean your diffuser before each new fragrance refill — and always when switching scents. Leftover oil can build up in the atomizer, weaken scent output, and mix with your new fragrance. A quick alcohol cleaning cycle keeps your diffuser performing like new and your scent smelling true.
Use 70% or 91% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol and run it for 15 to 30 minutes.
How do I clean a stand-alone diffuser?
For car, desktop, and floor-standing diffusers (Nova Drive, Nova Signature System, Nova Signature System 2.0, Nova Elite Pro, Nova X Elite):
- Empty the bottle. Remove the fragrance bottle and pour any remaining oil back into its original container.
- Add alcohol. Pour a small amount of 70% or 91% isopropyl alcohol into the empty bottle — about ¼ inch, or up to the second line from the bottom.
- Reattach the bottle to the diffuser the same way you attach your fragrance oil.
- Run the diffuser for 15–30 minutes so the alcohol clears out leftover oil residue.
- Finish and dry. Turn off and unplug the unit, remove the bottle, discard any remaining alcohol, and let the bottle dry completely.
- Refill with your next NOVAROMA fragrance oil and turn it back on.
Run the cleaning cycle in a well-ventilated room, away from open flames, candles, or heat sources.
How do I clean a diffuser connected to my HVAC system?
For HVAC-connected units like the Nova Nexus, use the same alcohol and run time (70% or 91% isopropyl for 15–30 minutes), plus these extra steps to protect your air system:
- Disconnect the tubing from the duct. Before cleaning, pull the scent delivery tube out of your HVAC air duct so the alcohol mist vents into the open room (like a utility room or garage) instead of through your ventilation system.
- If the tube can't be disconnected, set your thermostat fan to “ON” (not “Auto”) so constant airflow dilutes and disperses the vapor.
- Add alcohol to the empty bottle (about ¼ inch) and reattach it.
- Run the diffuser for 15–30 minutes.
- Air it out. Let the diffuser sit for about 10 minutes, then discard leftover alcohol and let the bottle dry completely.
- Reconnect the tube to the HVAC duct, refill with fragrance oil, and keep the HVAC fan running for a while so any leftover vapor clears out of the ducts.
Diffusers
How large of a space does each diffuser cover?
| Diffuser | Best for | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Nova Drive | Cars | Up to 300 sq ft |
| Nova Signature System 2.0 | Rooms & offices | Up to 1,200 sq ft |
| Nova Signature System | Living areas & bedrooms | Up to 1,500 sq ft |

For buildings with more than one AC unit, place a Nova Nexus at each AC to scent the entire space.
What is cold-air (waterless) diffusion, and is it safe?
Cold-air diffusion uses air pressure to turn pure fragrance oil into an ultra-fine mist — no water, no heat, and no candles or flames. Because the oil isn't heated, the fragrance stays true and there's no wet residue on furniture or surfaces. As with any fragrance, use it in a ventilated space and adjust intensity to your comfort.
Can I use NOVAROMA in my business?
Absolutely. Our commercial diffusers are designed for retail stores, hotels, med spas, salons, gyms, and offices. The Nova X Elite kiosk can even play your commercials on its built-in screen. Learn about commercial diffusers or request a consultation.
Fragrance Oils
Which fragrance oils work in my diffuser?
All NOVAROMA fragrance oils are compatible with every NOVAROMA cold-air diffuser. Oils are available in 50ML, 200ML, and 500ML.
How long do fragrance oils last?
It depends on your diffuser, the intensity setting, and how many hours a day it runs. Lower intensity and shorter work cycles make a bottle last longer — you can fine-tune both in the app. Larger spaces and commercial schedules use oil faster, so we recommend the 200ML or 500ML sizes for those.
Is it safe for pets?
Many households with pets enjoy cold-air diffusion, but animals — especially cats and birds — can be more sensitive to fragrance. Use a lower intensity, keep the room ventilated, make sure pets can leave the area, and check with your veterinarian if your pet has respiratory issues.
Can I switch scents?
Yes! Just run a quick alcohol cleaning cycle (see above) before adding your new fragrance so the scents don't mix.
